The Challenge
In 2018, Lee Andrews Group was enlisted by Metro to form StreetTeams. The aim was to monitor and address concerns regarding safetyto enhance the customer experience and reimagine public safety. Thisteam has grown to become a crucial component of Metro, spearheading multiple projects such as the K-Line, Discounted FaresPrograms: LIFE and GoPass. Furthermore, the project has also requiredfor Lee Andrews Group to facilitate multiple special events and supportMetro at various community-facing initiatives.
The Strategy
In order to supplement the Metro Public Relations’ team, Lee AndrewsGroup has assembled a Street Team made up of over 65+individuals in order to support Metro at community workings suchas local events, fairs, trade shows, industry conferences, rail lineopenings, CEO pop-ups and other special events and projects. Thisteam was also recruited from the local community, reflecting thediverse demographic of Metro’s ridership. This alongside the 40+community Intervention Specialists (CIS) and partnerships with localCommunity-Based Organizations (CBOs) have provided a multi-layeredapproach to safety. The Street Team work early mornings, weekends, holidays, weekdays, and evenings.
The OutcomeThis ongoing collaboration has brought great success with each respective project and has contributed significantly to the Los Angeles community. In 2023 alone, the Street Team program was featured in the Los Angeles Sentinel as a positive example of a reimagined safety model for transit systems and “an extreme value in creating a safe environment” highlighting the K-Line as the safest and cleanest line on the Metro transit system. One factor that helps the Street Team achieve program success includes the knowledge Street Team members have of the communities they serve.
